"That at the name of Jesus, every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Philippians 2:10-11 (NASB)
These verses affirm that the whole intelligent universe is called to worship Christ - those in heaven, on earth and under the earth. It speaks to the universal nature of His lordship. He is LORD over absolutely every created being, whether angelic or human. Some will gladly bow, but others will do so simply under the sheer weight of the obvious.
In today's culture, many believe that submitting wholeheartedly to something or someone that cannot be seen and touched is anything but intelligent. Our world gauges intelligence by tests, material success or Mensa membership. Mensa is the largest and oldest high-IQ society in the world. Only those who score in the 98th percentile or higher on a standard IQ test are considered for membership.
Interestingly, none of those criteria mattered to Jesus. Eternal membership into God's family rests on one criteria alone: "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (John 3:16, NIV).
No IQ test. No fancy credentials needed. Simply faith. What is faith? Saving faith is true, heartfelt trust in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Mere intellectual knowledge of or belief in God's existence just doesn't cut it.
Intelligence may take us far on earth, but faith takes us into eternity. Regardless of where we stand when Jesus returns to judge the world, we won't be standing for long. Every knee, everywhere, will bow. He is King of kings and Lord of lords. He humbled himself and became obedient to death on a cross to provide us the bridge into eternity.
Because of that life-saving act on our behalf, God exalted Jesus to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name. At His name, all of the intelligent universe will bow. No IQ test required.
