We have officially said goodbye to 2009. As you reflect back on 2009, what do you see? For some it may have been a year full of abundance, plenty, and great spiritual growth. You celebrated an expanding family, achieved an educational accomplishment, reached a long sought-after career goal, or even stepped outside the lines and undertook ministry that stretched and blessed you and others outrageously. 2009 was a great year.
For others, 2009 may have been a season of shadows and sorrows. It was a roller coaster of highs and lows, mountaintops and valleys, or joy and sadness. You lost a loved one, received a negative health report, accepted a pink slip, watched your marriage come to an end, or looked on helplessly as your child strayed down a dangerous path. You had to literally walk by faith and not by sight. 2009 was a tough year.
If you look carefully, no matter which scenario describes your 2009, Jesus was right there with you every single step of the way. He danced with you on the mountaintops and carried you through the valleys. That's what Jesus does. He's walked in our shoes. He knows it's tough being us. He KNOWS.
This year was a roller coaster ride for me. Ministry mountaintops full of light and relational valleys full of darkness had me alternately praising and crying. Can you relate? Our memory verse this month reminds us that God WILL supply our every need. We simply trust and keep walking toward Him. So we enter 2010 worshipping Him in spirit and truth. Worship doesn't change our circumstances, but it invites God into the middle of any circumstance. His presence changes our focus. So, as I fix my eyes on His promises and gaze towards the horizon of 2010, it's going to be a "simply Jesus" year for me. Simply Jesus.
